Dr. Austin Keith Ray
Associate Veterinarian
Hi, my name is Dr. Austin Keith Ray, and I am a Veterinarian. My career in veterinary medicine grew from a lifelong love of animals and fascination with science.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Outside of veterinary medicine, I enjoy playing music, running, cooking—and eating—as well as watching almost any sport. At home, I stay busy with my two daughters, two dogs, and two cats.
Favorite Part of My Job
One of my favorite parts of being a veterinarian is sharing my knowledge with clients and helping them make informed decisions about their pets’ health. Of course, spending time with puppies and kittens is another welcome part of the job!
Why I Chose This Profession
Veterinary medicine has always been a natural intersection of my love for animals and my fascination with science. As a child, I was my neighborhood’s go-to dog walker and pet sitter. My first job was at Petco, followed by a position at a veterinary clinic—experiences that helped set the stage for a rewarding career caring for animals.
Education
I completed my undergraduate education at the University of California, San Diego, before earning my veterinary degree from the University of California, Davis.
Professional Background
My professional interests include toxicology, soft-tissue surgery, dermatology, and preventive medicine. My experience in both emergency and general practice has shaped my approach to providing comprehensive care and helping pets live healthier lives.
Memberships
I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA).
Work History
I spent 20 years working exclusively in emergency medicine, where I developed special interests in toxicology and soft-tissue surgery. After transitioning to general practice, I expanded my interests to include dermatology and preventive medicine, with the goal of helping pets avoid many of the emergencies I encountered throughout my career.
