Dr. Christopher Hoolihan
Owner and Medical Director
Hi, my name is Dr. Hoolihan, and I am the Owner and Medical Director, working across all four of our practices as needed. I am passionate about providing high-quality care and helping my patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and golf. At home I have two orange male cats: Marius, an eleven-year-old DSH, and Wesley, a five-year-old DSH.
Favorite Part of My Job
What I enjoy most is helping people care for their animal family and friends.
Why I Chose This Profession
I was drawn to this profession by a love for medicine, animals, and their humans.
Education
I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997, after completing my Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature with a minor in Music at UC Davis in 1992. I went on to complete a rotating internship in Emergency and Critical Care at Southpaws Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield, VA from 1997 to 1998.
Professional Background
I have a special interest in veterinary cardiology and am considered a local expert in the field, though non-board-certified. I completed a brief cardiology residency, and I also enjoy soft tissue surgery.
Memberships
I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA).
Work History
I held various emergency veterinary positions from 1999 to 2006, followed by a cardiology residency at Animal Surgical and Emergency Center in Los Angeles in 2006 and several relief veterinary positions from 2007 to 2009. I then served as Owner and Medical Director DVM of Pacific Beach Veterinary Clinic from 2009 to 2019.
I co-authored the abstract "Plasma D-Dimer Concentrations in Cats with Left Atrial Enlargement," presented at ACVIM in 2006.
