Dr. Lynsey Hillberg

Associate Veterinarian

Hi, my name is Dr. Hillberg, and I am an Associate Veterinarian who rotates between all four of our hospitals. I am passionate about providing high-quality care and helping my patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment.

Personal Hobbies and Interests

Outside of work, I enjoy working out, surfing, drawing, and playing the piano. I live with my "tripawd" rescue dog, Astro, who keeps me active and is blissfully unaware of his missing leg, and together we love exploring San Diego's beaches, trails, and everything the area has to offer.

Favorite Part of My Job

What I enjoy most is working with all the incredible staff at each hospital—and having them love on my dog, Astro, whenever he comes along. I also find it deeply meaningful to support families through the difficult moment of saying goodbye, providing peaceful, compassionate, and dignified euthanasia in the comfort of their own home.

Why I Chose This Profession

My admiration for this field began at an early age, going along to the veterinarian with my family's pets growing up.

Education

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a concentration in Cellular, Molecular, and Microbial Biology, from CSU Stanislaus (2016–2020), followed by my MVB in Veterinary Medicine from University College Dublin in Ireland (2021–2025). During veterinary school I also completed externships throughout California, Ireland, and Australia, spanning general practice, specialty and emergency, equine, mixed, and large animal medicine.

Professional Background

I have a growing interest in soft tissue surgery and ophthalmology, and I continue to develop my skills in both areas.

Work History

I first entered the field as a veterinary assistant at the Veterinary Medical Center of Turlock under Dr. James Quinley, volunteering in high school and then working there before starting my undergraduate studies (2014–2016). During my training I worked as a veterinary technician at Monte Vista Small Animal Hospital (summer 2022) and Banfield in Pacific Beach (2023). Since February 2026, I have also provided in-home euthanasia services part-time through Transitions Veterinary Service.
