Hi, my name is Dr. Wu-Woods, and I am an associate veterinarian at Peñasquitos Pet Clinic. I am passionate about providing high-quality care and helping my patients feel comfortable and confident in their treatment.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
Outside of veterinary medicine, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two young daughters, ages two and four, through family bike rides, beach days, zoo and museum visits, and lots of singing and dancing at home. I love cuddling with my two cats, watching movies, listening to music, and trying to keep my novice surfing hobby alive. I also enjoy creative outlets like painting and fashion, and when I can find a quiet moment, I appreciate relaxing with a warm cup of coffee or tea. At home we have two cats: Benjamin, a one-year-old orange tabby we took in from our clinic after he was relinquished as a kitten—a mischievous, cuddly escape artist who loves to counter surf—and Auto, a three-year-old black-and-tan tabby rescued as part of a litter found in an old car, a sweet but sassy girl who will talk your ear off and loves to tattle on her brother.
Favorite Part of My Job
What I enjoy most is helping pets feel better when they're sick and keeping them healthy, and seeing families find relief in being able to keep their animals happy, healthy, and free of pain. I also deeply value the close relationships I build with both clients and my veterinary team.
Why I Chose This Profession
I chose this profession because of my love of animals. Growing up, I was always surrounded by animals at home—mostly dogs and cats, along with the occasional hamster, fair chicken, or rescued songbird. The companionship, comfort, and unconditional love those animals provided had a profound impact on me, and I wanted to give back by caring for animals while supporting the families of the little creatures who bring so much love and connection into our lives.
Education
I earned my Bachelor's in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh (2005–2009), followed by my VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. I then completed a one-year rotating small animal internship at Friendship Animal Hospital in Washington, D.C., where I received advanced clinical training across small animal medicine, surgery, emergency care, and primary care.
Professional Background
My professional interests include preventative care, client education, internal medicine, routine soft tissue surgeries, pain management, and dental health. I especially enjoy helping anxious or fearful pets feel more comfortable during their visits, and I strive to create a safe, trusting environment where care plans can be tailored to both the pet's wellbeing and each family's needs and goals.
Work History
I began my career in emergency medicine at Metropolitan Veterinary Associates (2016–2017) before transitioning to general practice as an Associate Veterinarian at Aston Veterinary Clinic (2016–2019) and Pacific Beach Veterinary Clinic (2020–2022). In general practice, I am passionate about preventive care, long-term patient relationships, and helping families navigate their pets' healthcare in a compassionate, practical way.
